The 8.5HOR 8.5-inch High Output Reflector produces a narrower beam (45°) than our standard 7-inch, 80° wide-angle reflector and it produces about 1 f-stop more light on the subject. This reflector is an excellent choice for general-purpose lighting due to its high efficiency and very smooth feathered pattern.

The reflector fits around the flashtube and modeling lamp on the front faceplate of all standard Paul C. Buff™ flash units and can be used alone for a bright, directed throw, or used together with many of our light modifying accessories. Our 8.5-inch honeycomb grids can be used to tighten the beam spread, fitting into the reflector’s recessed outer lip. The reflector additionally has an umbrella hole for use with various brands of umbrellas and brolly boxes. The 8.5HOR measures 4.5 inches deep and 8.5 inches in diameter.

Flash Units: The 8.5HOR fits around the flashtube and modeling lamp on the front faceplate of all standard Paul C. Buff™ flash units, including the AlienBees™ (B400, B800 and B1600) flash units, White Lightning™ X-Series flash units, Zeus™ Z2500SH or Z2500BTH flash heads and Einstein™ E640 flash unit. This is the recommended reflector for use with the Einstein™ E640.

Honeycomb Grids: The 8.5-inch honeycomb grids (available in 15º and 30º beam spreads) may be used with the 8.5HOR, snapping inside the reflector’s recessed outer lip.

Umbrellas and Brolly Boxes: Our U48TWB and U48SW umbrellas may be used with the 8.5HOR and umbrellas and brolly boxes from various other manufacturers (including all retired Paul C. Buff™ umbrellas and brolly boxes) may be used with the reflector as it has a wide umbrella hole. The reflector hole lines up with corresponding umbrella hole on the flash unit housing and accepts umbrella or brolly poles measuring up to 3/8-inch in diameter.
